WHERE
IS SHE?

Usually in her studio.
Or spending time with family.
Or any number of places.
If those have to do with writing,
they'll be listed

This photo is from an old , old newspaper
clipping announcing my election as the
Grove (Okla.) Roundup Club's Rodeo Queen
when I was 15 years old.
I recall that the newspaper didn't send anyone out to the ranch, or to a rodeo. They asked that I come into their office, then asked that I scoot back my hat to avoid a shadow on my face.
Hence, the "friendly cowgirl" pose.

Put away his pick and shovel,
He will never prospect more;
Death has sluiced him from his trouble,
Panned him on the other shore.
                                                  --Miner's epitaph,
Black Hills Daily Times, July 18, 1877

That epitaph, combined with my love for gold prospecting, inspired this story about three down-on-their-luck prospectors.
"Fool's Gold" was my first western short story.
